Despite an 87% drop in sales over its launch figures last week, Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has retained the No.1 spot in its second week on the UK charts as the series has done for the last four years in a row.
The big news this week, however, was an influx of new releases into the top 10 as the game industry belched out one last volley of Christmas launches before the release schedules go relatively quiet until next year.
Assassin's Creed: Revelations debuted at No.2, Saints Row: The Third came in at No.4, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary surfaced at No.6, and Nintendo enjoyed two new entries into the top 10 with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land at No.7 and No.9 respectively.
This all means sizeable demotions for some of last week's top 10 titles, with Battlefield 3 and Just Dance 3 both dropping five places to No.8 and No.10 respectively. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and FIFA 12 were the most resilient titles, with the former slipping one spot to No.3 and FIFA 12 also dropping one position to No.5.
A number of other notable new entries failed to make the top 10, with EA's Need For Speed: The Run just missing out at No.11, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 slotting in at No.13, and SEGA's Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games launching at No.20 (that last title may enjoy a resurgence in sales as the Olympic Games move into full swing next year though).
Despite some positive feedback from a small handful of reviews, Kinect: Disneyland Adventures only just managed to make it into the top 40 at No.39 on its launch week.
