New Alan Wake Game Heading To Xbox Live [UPDATE] News

Following Remedy Entertainment's confirmation last May that it is developing a new Alan Wake instalment, further official word on the project is now starting to emerge – early indications are that it'll be a digital distributed game via Xbox Live.

Major Nelson has the lowdown, revealing via Twitter that, “We can confirm that this new 'Alan Wake' game will be a fully standalone experience and released on Xbox Live.”

In less official news, XBLA Fans has what it's claiming is a photo of the game's title screen. Night Springs is seemingly the subtitle (interestingly it's referred to as Alan Wake's Night Springs rather than, say, Alan Wake: Night Springs), and the menu layout does appear to suggest it's an XBLA game given the 'Arcade Action' mode and 'Unlock Full Game' option.

The new title has also been lined up for an official unveiling at this year's Spike Video Game Awards according to a press release from the company behind the ceremony. The awards will take place in the US on December 10th.

Remedy had previously confirmed that this second Alan Wake game will not be a full sequel, and that it was slated for release towards the end of this year. With the announcement set for a month from now, a release before the end of the year is now unlikely although an early 2012 launch isn't out of the question for a smaller XBLA game.

Previous rumours emanating from Remedy job ads had indicated that the developer was working on Kinect technology for a triple-A console project. Whether this is in any way linked to the new Alan Wake project remains to be seen...

Update: Remedy has now confirmed that it's an Xbox Live Arcade title over on its forums. It seems that some vocal fans are a touch dissapointed that the game isn't a full sequel; a decision that the studio's Community Manager, Peter Papadopoulos was quick to defend.

Thanks, Eurogamer.
