At E3 earlier this year, EA made a promise that PS3 owners who purchase a copy of Battlefield 3 will receive a free copy of the downloadable game Battlefield 1943 as bonus content. When BF3 was released last month and failed to come with this promised content, naturally consumers were a bit miffed.
So miffed, in fact, that some of them filed a class action lawsuit against EA demanding their promised copy of Battlefield 1943. Alongside this threat of legal action, EA released belated information on how PS3 gamers can get hold of their free content via PSN after all.
You can find the full details of how and when BF1943 will be made available in each territory (starting in Europe next week) through here, with EA conceding that “there have been some misunderstandings” over the whole issue.
In the company's defence, it did post that update a number of days before reports of a class action lawsuit surfaced, and also the tweet that originally appeared to withdraw the offer didn't explicitly state that no copy of BF1943 would be made available whatsoever. Instead, it merely conceeded that it wasn't on the disk of Battlefield 3 copies for PS3:
“In lieu of 1943 being available on disk for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers,” read the tweet from EA's Battlefield account last month.
Whether it's a genuine misunderstanding or a bit of corporate mischief, at least it's getting sorted...
